In a world where there is so much wealth, so many resources to feed everyone, it is unfathomable that there are so many hungry children, that there are so many children without an education, so many poor persons. . . To love God and neighbor is not something abstract, but profoundly concrete: it means seeing in every person the face of the Lord to be served, to serve him concretely.

Dear Friends,

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western hemisphere. We at First Churches have an opportunity to do something profoundly concrete to love God and neighbor by helping the children of Haiti.

Beginning in 2005, First Churches forged a partnership with CONASPEH, the National Council of Spiritual Churches of Haiti, to work for justice in Haiti.  CONASPEH is an umbrella organization of over 8,000 Protestant churches. It runs a K-13 school, a nursing school, a seminary and a vocational school and supports other schools and programs run by its member churches.

Since Judy Sherman’s first visit ten years ago, other members of First Churches have visited Haiti. Our church has provided medical equipment, school supplies, and earthquake relief to CONASPEH. CONASPEH’s founder, Rev. Patrick Villier has preached at First Churches. This past January, Miguelson Charles spoke at Second Hour. First Churches supported Miguelson and his family after the earthquake and has helped him with his college expenses.

Pastor Villier, CONASPEH’s founder, believes strongly that the solution to Haiti’s challenges is education. Twice in the past, First Churches has raised money for scholarships for students in Haiti who long to go to school but whose families cannot afford to send them. With the support of the Missions Board, we hope to make the Haiti Scholarship Fund an annual project of First Churches.

The cost for a student to attend the K-13 CONASPEH school for a year is $118. Two years ago we raised almost $4000 for scholarships, enough to pay for 33 children to attend school for one year. This year we hope to send 40 children to school for a year by raising $4700.

You have an opportunity to make a huge difference in the life of a child.  God has richly blessed us. Let us share that blessing. Please give generously. Any amount will be gratefully received! Thank you.
