“13th”  Award-Winning Documentary on Racism

Thirteenth Amendment to the US Constitution: Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

“13th” shows how institutional racism developed from the end of the Civil War, through the time of Jim Crow and the development of Mass Incarceration. The 90-minute film reveals how the US has become a world leader in imprisoning people, especially black men.

We will have time for discussion following the movie, as a kickoff to our Anti-Racism work this year. You can watch the movie trailer here:
