January 21, 2014
Dear Member of First Churches,
In accordance with the by-laws, the Church Council has called for a congregational meeting following worship on February 2, 2014 for the sole purpose on voting on the stewardship and disposition of the Tiffany Stained Glass Window, commonly called “the river of life” window” in the church sanctuary. All church members may vote one of the following three options:
1) To agree to sell the window and replace it.
2) To restore the window in its present place.
3) To abstain and trust in the wisdom the congregation as a whole.
We will gather in Lyman Hall for worship and open the meeting after worship, with communion to follow the vote. This will be a paper ballot. After calling the meeting, the floor will be open for discussion. All attendees will be allowed to speak for 90 seconds to the issue. Discussion will continue until properly brought to a close.
We will allow absentee ballots that are returned to the church office by February 1, in a sealed envelope with a signature across the seal. Ballots must be requested from the church office. Please direct questions to the Church Moderator, Donna O’Meally, or to Pastor, Todd Weir.
This has been a participatory dialog process to reach this moment. If you have been unable to attend meetings, we urge to read all the notes and reports of the meetings which are posted on the church website at: https://www.firstchurches.org/tiffany-window-discussion-background-materials. We will send you a copy if you do not have internet access. We urge everyone to make an informed and faithful decision. You may contact Donna, Pastor Todd or seek out others who have attended meetings if you have questions.
Donna O’Meally, Church Moderator
